Assignments & electives
An assignment connects a teacher to a class and a subject. It's the step that actually lets a teacher mark attendance — until an assignment exists, a teacher can't see the class or subject at all. This is usually the last part of setting up your college.
Finding the Assignments tab
Assignments has its own tab. On desktop it's in the admin tab bar (Attendance, Teachers, Classes, Subjects, Students, Assignments, Account). On a phone, you'll find it under the More menu.
Creating an assignment
On the Assignments tab, use Add assignment and work through it in order:
- Choose the class.
- Choose the teacher you're assigning.
- Tick the subject or subjects that teacher will take for this class. You can select more than one at a time.
- Save — the teacher can now mark attendance for those subjects in that class.
You can assign several teachers to the same class, and give one teacher several subjects (or several classes). There's no limit — set it up to match who actually teaches what.
Elective subjects
Most subjects are core — every student in the class takes them, so there's nothing extra to do. An elective is different: only some of the class's students take it, so an elective keeps its own roster — the subset of students enrolled in it.
When you assign a teacher to a subject that's an elective, Daily Tab asks you to choose which students are enrolled. Only those students appear on the mark sheet for that elective; the rest of the class is left out of it. Core subjects skip this — they automatically include the whole class.
Seeing and removing assignments
Existing assignments are listed on the same tab, showing which teacher is linked to which class and subject. To remove one, use its remove action. Taking away an assignment stops that teacher from marking that subject going forward, but the attendance they already recorded stays intact in your history.
If you can't create an assignment yet
You need a teacher, a class, and a subject to exist before you can link them. If any is missing, add it first — see Inviting teachers, Classes, and Subjects.
